Red Dragon X Concrete Playground

The Red Dragon Inn, a pop-up Chinese restaurant set aloft the Golden Square’s CBD rooftop carpark, was the centrepiece of caterer Fred & Ginger’s first ever event collaboration with Concrete Playground.

Anything, anywhere, possible.
Make it look like a 90s streetfood stall

Given its temporary status, and the need for it to stand out in the ‘concrete jungle’ of the Melbourne’s CBD, the brief was to go bold or go home. To be applied to the fascia of a large shipping container, Fred & Ginger wanted the Red Dragon to have a nostalgic feel, evocative of a 90’s streetfood stall.

The resulting logotype was given a communist poster meets comic book style feel with a contemporary Asian, high impact colour scheme to bring it to life. Fred & Ginger’s short, sharp, retro Cantonese menu also inspired the creation of additional foodie graphics that were applied to the front of the container restaurant and other items. It’s a shame the Red Dragon Inn was only in operation for one night only, but who knows when it might reappear?
